About the market
its beginning
The market was first started by a group of environmental supporters from McGill University’s nearby Macdonald campus in 2000. It initially had seven vendors, but now host over 40 merchants at Lalonde Park. In 2006, the Winter Market opened in St-Georges Church Hall on St Georges street. Today, on average, the market receives 1500 visitors each Saturday.
Our Mission
Our mission is to continue to provide a community service and to support the region’s appetite for high quality, locally certified organic produce. Each vendor has gone through a stringent application process to ensure that the market stays true to its core. We also want the market to be a place where
- charities and community groups can raise awareness,
- arts and culture become a part of the shopping day, and
- free educational workshops and cooking demos take place, especially during several big theme days over the season.
The market is an important source of commerce as well as a gateway to our charming town.
